1. Which wallet format fits the customer and sales channel?

A bifold, trifold, card holder, zip-around wallet, passport holder and travel organizer solve different needs. Define how the customer carries cash, cards, coins, identification and receipts. Consider pocket size, expected capacity, opening method and whether the wallet will be sold alone or as part of a coordinated collection.

A compact format may suit online gifting or minimalist retail, while a long zip wallet may need more hardware, lining and internal assembly. Selecting the format first allows the factory to recommend an appropriate pattern and construction rather than forcing features into an unsuitable shape.

2. What are the true usable dimensions and capacity?

Closed dimensions do not describe usable space. State how many cards the design should hold, whether slots are intended for one card or multiple cards, which banknote sizes must fit, and whether a phone, passport or coins are included. International collections may need to accommodate different currency dimensions.

During sample approval, test the wallet with representative cards and contents. Check insertion, removal, closure and folded thickness. An empty sample may look slim but become difficult to close after normal loading.

3. Which exterior material supports the desired position?

Genuine leather, PU and other vegan alternatives can all be used for private label leather wallets, but they create different cost, hand feel, edge behavior, thickness and consistency. A broad label such as "cow leather" or "vegan leather" is not a production specification.

4. How should thickness be controlled across folds and pockets?

Wallets combine several layers in a small area. Exterior leather, slot pieces, lining, reinforcement, folded edges and adhesive can build excessive thickness. The factory may need to split, skive or step different layers so the finished product remains balanced without becoming weak.

Ask the sample team to review the thickest intersections, not only the outer body. Check fold lines, card slot corners, zipper ends and snap areas. The finished sample should close naturally and retain its intended silhouette when loaded.

5. Is reinforcement defined by function?

Reinforcement helps a wallet keep its shape and supports stress points, but more reinforcement is not always better. Excessively rigid material can make card access difficult or create visible ridges. Too little structure can cause stretching, distortion or early wear.

Define which areas require stability, flexibility or recovery. Card slot openings, folds, zipper bases, snap attachments and logo locations may need different solutions. Approve the reinforcement within the finished sample because hidden layers affect both performance and feel.

6. Does the RFID requirement match the construction?

RFID-blocking material can be incorporated into compatible wallet and card holder designs. The requirement should describe where the protective layer is placed and which compartments it is intended to cover. A material swatch alone does not confirm finished-product performance.

If RFID protection is a retail claim, agree on the validation method and acceptance requirement before bulk production. The sample must be assessed in its completed construction because seams, openings and layer placement can affect coverage.

8. What edge and stitch standard defines the product?

Raw edges, folded edges, turned construction and edge paint produce different appearances and production requirements. Edge paint may involve several controlled applications and drying stages, while folded edges add material thickness. The chosen method should match the design, leather and target price.

Set visual standards for edge smoothness, color coverage, corner shape, stitch spacing, backstitching, thread color and alignment. Because wallet details are viewed at close range, a signed sample or clear photographic standard is important for consistent inspection.

9. Does the sample approval create complete production documents?

Record every revision made during sampling. The final approval basis should include the physical sample, measurement chart with tolerances, pattern version, bill of materials, approved swatches, logo artwork, construction notes and packaging instructions.
